Tuberculosis is an important risk factor for lung cancer in rural China, according to study findings published in the March issue of the International Journal of Cancer.”Tobacco and indoor air pollution from smoky coal are major causes of lung cancer in rural Xuanwei County, China,” Dr. Eric A. Engels, of the National Cancer Institute, Rockville, Maryland, and colleagues write. “It has been proposed that tuberculosis may increase the risk of lung cancer, because of lung inflammation and fibrosis that could induce genetic damage,” they note.

Addario Lung Cancer Foundation’s New Generation of Crusaders, James Lichtenthal Traveled to New York City on March 5, 2009 for the American Cancer Society’s Awareness Day Last Thursday, three years almost to the date of his aunt Dana Reeve’s untimely death from Lung Cancer, James Lichtenthal, 18, boarded a 5:30 a.m. plane to New York City from Boston, carrying with him expectations of hope and change to more than 200 high school students and guests gathered at a rally to raise awareness for all cancers held at Fiorello LaGuardia High School.
