So, you’ve gotten to the point where you are serious about kicking the smoking habit but you don’t really want to use drugs or other medications. The good news is that you can quit smoking without drugs or medication. In fact using this method may even make you learn to hate the smell and taste of cigarettes.
This is such a radical approach that it probably won’t get too many recommendations from the health care community. But they don’t recommend smoking either do they?
This is quite an extreme method so you probably shouldn’t use it for more than two or three days in a row. Once you have done it though, chances are that you might quit for good right then and there. If down the road you do start smoking again, just repeat the process again to get back on track.
This is how you do it.
This works best if you can smoke whenever you want to, day or night, like weekends or whenever your days off fall. If you are a stay at home mother, it may help if there is someone handy to help with childcare, if at all possible.
The first step starts as soon as you get up. Immediately light up your first cigarette of the day, even if you don’t usually do so. Then smoke it as fast as you can before doing anything else. Do not brush your teeth and do not take a shower. Then head to the kitchen and light up again right away. Like you did before, smoke this cigarette as quickly as possible.
Then make a cup of your favorite morning drink. But before drinking any of it, light another cigarette and smoke it right down to the filter as fast as you can. Then you can have your coffee or tea but be sure to smoke another cigarette along with it.
Repeat the process of doing one single small thing followed up with a cigarette which you always smoke in fast unpleasant way before doing anything else. The goal is to smoke as much as possible and to become frustrated in how long it takes to get anything done.
Why you smoke each cigarette so quickly is to take away any pleasure that you might have in leisurely having a cigarette and relaxing. You are instead trying to make each cigarette hot and unpleasant. Don’t take a break between puffs and don’t put the cigarette down until you’ve finished it. Aim to smoke every cigarette a lot more quickly than you usually do.
Force yourself to smoke lots more than you usually do. Concentrate on your smoking. Take note of how bad your mouth tastes after awhile and how your fingers stink of tobacco. Most of all though, notice how you are not at all enjoying those cigarettes. Continue doing this right until you head off for bed at night.
With luck, you will wake up feeling not great. Hopefully, you have at least a slight headache and maybe even a queasy stomach. Your chest may be feeling kind of heavy and the urge to cough is strong. But don’t let any of that stop you from doing it all over again the second day.
This is a great way to quit smoking without drugs. In fact, if you stick to it over a weekend or two, chances are you will learn to hate the smell and taste of cigarettes.
